Fall Movies Teachers Want To See

Posted on October 28, 2015

The school year is well under way.  Most teachers are beyond busy, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be taking a little time to decompress.  This is the time of year where the movie theater is filled with great films for teachers and administrators alike.  Whether it’s something to discuss by the coffee machine with colleagues, or inspiring pop culture you can use to engage your students, make sure you’re up to date with what’s playing at the movie theater!

Reminder, these are suggestions for teachers… some movies may not have content appropriate for students.

The Martian
PG-13
A botanist astronaut is stranded on Mars; it’s up to him to survive, while the team on Earth figures out how to rescue him.  A must see for all science teachers.  Also check out the novel it’s based on.

Room
Rated R
Held captive for years in an enclosed room, a woman and her 5-year-old son are finally free – allowing the boy to experience the outside world for the first time. Based on the beloved novel, this is sure to be the most emotionally charged film of the season.

Steve Jobs
Rated R
A careful look at the man behind Apple through three key moments in his career.  Wonderfully written and acted, this is a different kind of superhero film.  We all know how his vision has changed our lives, now see the story behind the innoventions.

Crimson Peak
Rated R
Classic literature fans will recognize how director Guillermo Del Toro puts his signature touch of wonder and horror on a classic gothic romance tale.  It’s gorgeously envisioned, but be warned, the scares are intense and gory… just like forbidden love!

Spectre
PG – 13
007 is back, ready to take on his classic nemesis… the terrorist organization Spectre. Sam Mendes, director of the last Bond film, SKYFALL, is back, as is Daniel Craig as Bond, James Bond.  The classic series continues and is a beloved favorite of teachers of all ages.

The Peanuts Movie
Rated G
Everyone grew up with Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang.  Now, re-live your childhood with this new take, computer animated, but promising to keep the charm of the cartoons you remember.  This is one is good for all ages, students and teachers alike.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2
PG-13
The conclusion of the Hunger Games film series.  Students and teachers have loved the books and movies and will all be excited to see this final chapter in Katniss’ battle with the Capitol.

Creed
Not Yet Rated
The classic Rocky storyline continues as he passes the torch to Adonis Johnson, the son of Rocky’s one-time rival, Apollo Creed.  Sure to be an exhilarating underdog story in the tradition of the original Rocky.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Not Yet Rated
It’s the new Star Wars.  What else do you need to know?  Go see it with everyone else!
