New social studies questions with a focus on the Battle of Antietam and the Emancipation Proclamation are now available in our middle school levels (G, H and I). These common core aligned questions are based on the article “Striking at Slavery” by Kathiann M. Kowalski, from California Chronicles magazine. All questions include either a passage from the article or an excerpt from the Emancipation Proclamation (some questions feature both).
The Castle Learning Social Studies Content Team is excited to showcase this article, the most recent from our partnership with Cobblestone & Cricket Media, an award winning producer of 15 magazines. In answering these original question sets, we believe students will gain meaningful learning experiences and the opportunity to practice critical thinking skills.
Question types include multiple choice, constructed response and “check all that apply” options. These questions can be found by searching in the following topic:
Social Studies > US History > Civil War & Reconstruction (1850-1877) > A Nation Divided
