The New Nation (1783-1815)

Elementary  /  Social Studies /  The New Nation (1783-1815)

The early American colonists were victorious over the British in the Revolutionary War and claimed their independence from England. The 13 colonies began to experiment with various governmental structures to run their new territories. Life in this new nation was chaotic, as each colony was governing itself as an independent entity. Money was tight and many people, such as farmers and other laborers, began to experience poverty. In 1787 the Constitutional Convention was held and a plan for our current governmental structure and the Constitution started to emerge.
