Cold War Era (1945-1970s)
Elementary / Social Studies / Cold War Era (1945-1970s)
Shortly after World War II tensions began to rise between the United States and the Soviet Union, leading to the Cold War. The Cold War was not a direct confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union, but rather a period of uncertainty regarding the rise of Communism and development and implementation of nuclear weapons by the Soviet Union. During this time period the United States was also experiencing waves of change with each new decade. From the rise of prosperity in the 1950s, to the civil rights movement in the 1960s, to the controversy surrounding the conflict in Vietnam in the 1970s, American life was continually evolving.
